Membership in the International Paralegal Management Association is available to paralegal managers in law firms, corporations, government, judicial or legal agencies. Membership is also available to those individuals who may be otherwise involved in paralegal management, or who serve as vendors of services and products of interest to paralegal managers.
The IPMA has several categories of membership:
Regular
For those who manage or supervise paralegals and other non-attorney timekeepers...
- Open to any qualified person who is employed by a private law firm, corporate in-house legal department, government, judicial or administrative agency, court system, or other charitable legal agency.
- Applicant must be responsible for managerial and administrative duties specifically related to paralegal personnel employed by the organization, regardless of the title by which the person is classified within the organization.
- Duties may be either personally performed or delegated to others, but must include at least five of the duties described in at least two of the categories as listed in the Membership Application.
- Eligible to vote and hold elective or appointed office.
Dues: $200 USD

Associate
For non-managerial paralegals, attorneys or administrators...
- Open to any individual who does not meet the requirements of Regular membership and who is a paralegal, attorney, or in-house administrator employed by a private law firm, corporate in-house legal department, government, judicial or administrative agency, court system, or charitable legal agency.
- Above applicants must be responsible for no less than one of the duties listed on page 2 of the Membership Application.
- An individual involved in bar association activities related to paralegal training or management.
- An executive of a professional association involved in activities related to paralegal training or management. A professional association may not have more than one executive designated for membership.
- Associate members may, with the approval of the Board, hold a Committee Chair, Task Force Chair or Chapter Chair position and shall have all the rights and privileges prescribed by the IPMA Bylaws.
- Associate members are not entitled to vote or to run for elective or appointed office.
- Consultants, vendors and employees of vendors may not become Associate Members of the Association, even though they meet the criteria for this class of membership.
Dues: $175 USD

Academic
For paralegal educators...
- Applicant must be employed as a paralegal program director, assistant director or paralegal educator.
- Open to any individual or institution who does not meet the requirements of Regular, Associate or Sustaining Membership, but who is supportive of the purposes of the Association.
- Must be affiliated with an ABA approved paralegal program, or a program that is in substantial compliance with the ABA Guidelines for the Approval of Paralegal Education Programs and accredited by a nationally-recognized accrediting agency; or, in Canada, a nationally-recognized provincial or territorial accredited program; or, outside the United States and Canada, a program accredited by or in substantial compliance with the guidelines set by an organization equivalent to the ABA, law society or provincial or territorial bar association.
- Academic Members may, with the approval of the Board, hold a Committee Chair, Task Force Chair, or Chapter Chair position and shall have all rights and privileges prescribed by the IPMA Bylaws.
- Academic members are not entitled to vote or to run for elective or appointed office.

Emeritus
For former Regular members. Nomination required...
- Open to any individual who does not meet the requirements of any other membership category and who was a Regular Member for two (2) years and a paralegal manager for a minimum of five (5) years.
- Emeritus Members may, with the approval of the Board, hold a Task Force Chair but may not be a Committee Chair nor a Chapter Chair and shall have all the rights and privileges prescribed by the IPMA Bylaws but shall not be entitled to the right to vote or to run for elective or appointed office.
- An individual may be nominated for this membership category by a Regular or an Associate Member and the nomination must be approved by the Membership Committee and the Board of Directors.

Sustaining
For suppliers and vendors to the paralegal management community...
- Open to any individual or entity providing legal related services, products, goods or materials that support the purposes of the Association.
- Individual Sustaining Members may be either an individual or an entity but only one office location will be listed in the IPMA records.
- Corporate Sustaining Members may designate a member representative for each of its office locations.
- Sustaining Memberships are offered in the name of only one business or organization name. Related companies marketing under a different name may secure a separate membership for that company.
- Sustaining Members are not entitled to vote or to run for elective or appointed office.

Dues: $300 USD - Individual Sustaining /$1,200 USD - Corporate Sustaining

Life
Nomination-only category for exemplary contributions and service...
- Any IPMA member can nominate a member for Life Membership.
- The Board of Directors must approve the nomination.
- Nominees must demonstrate unique and far-reaching contributions to the Association.
- Nominees must also demonstrate leadership in the organization through participation on the Board, committees and/or chapters.
- Life Members have dues waived for life and are included in the Membership Directory regardless of employment status.
- All the benefits of an Associate member or, if current job duties qualify, a Regular member.
